Dr. Lenore E. Walker, EDD
Dr. Lenore Walker is a Professor and Coordinator of the Forensic Psychology concentration in the clinical psychology doctoral program at Nova Southeastern University's Center for Psychological Studies in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Active in American Psychological Association governance, she has chaired the Child Abuse Policy Committee and the APA Presidential Task Force on Violence and the Family. Her research named the Battered Woman Syndrome and many of the psychological constructs she has used to help explain the psychology of battered women are used in legal arguments over access to children. Walker authored the classic book, The Battered Woman and another book based on the research study, The Battered Woman Syndrome, is going into its third edition. Terrifying Love: Why Battered Women Kill and How Society Responds is another trade book, and Handbook of Child Sexual Abuse is currently going into its second edition. A frequent guest on popular television shows, she was featured on a Court TV segment testifying in a case, and was interviewed for 48 Hours. A videotape featuring her doing psychotherapy with an abused woman using her Survivor Therapy approach is available through the Domestic Violence Institute (www.dviworld.org). On the editorial boards of many of the professional journals dealing with family violence issues, Walker has published over 50 articles and book chapters and 14 books, the latest being a forensic psychology textbook, Introduction to Forensic Psychology: Clinical and Social Psychological Perspectives, co-authored with David Shapiro, Ph.D.
